The purpose of the Noho Marae is for students to understand Te Ao Maori more in depth. We are living in it everyday of our lives yet we are sometimes not aware of the impacts it has on us. In the future, architects will be collaborating with Maori's and are expected to understand how certain tikanga's and protocols work in their built environment.

- From Kathy, ”One of the Te Aranga principles (which you will see in many of our Learning Outcomes) is rangatiratanga, which recognises the importancemanawhenua have as a Tiriti o Waitangi partner in decision making...Developing cultural competence in learning how to engage with Māori is a critical tool for architects intending to work on these projects.”
